Local School Districts and College Facilities Focused Throughout Springfield, MO

Springfield Public Schools educates approximately 24,000 students and is Missouri’s largest fully accredited school district. The district offers over 12 choice programs. The average teacher has 13 years of teaching experience, with well over half possessing a master’s degree or above. Striving to ensure the “academic excellence of all students,” the district is comprised of the following:

All high schools are designated Missouri A+ Schools. Overall, students earn higher ACT composite scores than their state and national counterparts. In addition to this, two of the area’s high schools are listed as bronze medal schools by “U.S. News and World Reports.” Only 36 Missouri public high schools have earned this honor. One Springfield high school has been recognized by “Newsweek” as “one of 1,500 outstanding schools in the country” two years in a row.

Area Universities and Colleges

Springfield’s commitment to higher education is apparent as it serves over 40,000 college students through numerous universities and colleges.

Founded in 1955, Evangel University, the Assemblies of God University of Arts, Sciences, and Professions, offers over 100 academic programs in disciplines such as behavioral sciences, humanities, business, communication, leadership, science and technology, social science, education, music, kinesiology, and theology. The campus spans over 80 acres and attracts students from across the United States and abroad. This Christian liberal arts institution seeks to inspire development through a Pentecostal environment.

Missouri State University (MSU) is the second largest university in Missouri. MSU has been honored by the “Princeton Review” with its inclusion in the book, “Colleges with a Conscience: 81 Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement” as well as including MSU in the list of the “Best Colleges: Region by Region” for seven years running. MSU has a campus focus on critical thinking skills, inclusion, and utilizing diversity as a tool for stimulation and education. The faculty, staff, and student body strive to nurture a culture of connectedness through their three pillars of public affairs: community engagement, ethical leadership, and cultural competence. The university is comprised of “six academic colleges and a graduate college.” The six academic colleges include Arts and Letters, Business Administration, Education, Health and Human Services, Humanities and Public Affairs, and Natural and Applied Sciences. However, MSU is best known for its College of Business and its Theater and Dance School.

Ozarks Technical Community College (OTCC) is Springfield’s second-largest college, with an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students. Founded in 1990, Ozarks Technical Community College was conceived by residents of 14 area school districts who voted to establish a “community technical college.” With a mission to promote learning through high-quality technical and general education that provides accessibility and affordability to students, the college offers a myriad of programs for certificates and associate degrees. OTCC also provides continuing education opportunities, encouraging lifelong learning.

Set on approximately 90 acres, Drury University is a private school, often listed in the “U.S. News and World Report” “Top 10 Universities in the Midwest” rankings. Drury offers over 70 majors and academic programs. Students and faculty are considered colleagues in educational endeavors as students not only explore their areas of concentration but also enhance their critical thinking skills.

Baptist Bible College seeks to foster life-long learning in a Christ-centered venue through core values, including Biblical higher education, scriptural authority, Christ-centered curriculum, glorification of Christ, Biblical worldview, strategic relevance, and global evangelism. Faculty members possess advanced degrees and ministry experience.

Springfield offers additional higher learning opportunities through other local campuses, such as branches of national colleges, including the University of Phoenix and Bryan College.
